Baseball Teams Falls to Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, NC--The Bloomsburg University baseball team lost to Belmont-Abbey College on Monday by a score of 28-13.

Trailing 6-0 heading into the top of the fourth, the Huskies scored four times, while getting just one hit. The Huskies took advantage of three hit batters in the inning along with two walks. Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Wyalusing) had the lone hit inning which drove in two runs.

Later in the game with the Huskies behind 18-7, Bloomsburg got four runs back courtesy of a grand slam from Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner). Belmont Abbey, though, countered with 10 runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 28-11 lead. Bloomsburg scored twice more in the top of the ninth with Ward getting two more RBI.

Overall, Ward was 2-5 with six RBI, while Hitchcock was 3-4 with two RBI. Belmont Abbey was led by Alex Castellanos who was 4-6 with nine RBI and three runs scored.

The Huskies, 2-7, play at doubleheader at Newberry College on Tuesday.
